Installation:

Please note, we recommend using two D-ring PVC patches on the bow of your Big Duck for the anchor. Importantly, the grab handle that comes as standard is to be used for general handling, not for anchoring, towing or significant loads. - Handling only. 

The D-ring PVC patches should be installed on either side of the grab handle so that users can tie off their anchor in a bridal configuration. 

Adhesion:

All new Big Duck dinghies come complete with a repair kit which includes a PVC adhesive. This glue is to be used with the D-ring patches.

How long does inflation take?
  • Inflation and set up with the provided foot pump takes just 15 minutes. With our electric pump, this takes just 5 minutes or less.
  • Deflation takes just 5-10 minutes.
What are Big Duck’s made from?
  • Hybrid PVC hull and chambers (1.2mm thickness)
  • Hull underside is thicker at 2mm
  • Aluminium internal folding floor
  • Marine-grade heavy duty plywood transom
  • All seams are split into a 5-layer process that's bonded by an industry-leading thermowelding process, ensuring no possible leaks from the seams or joins.
Do I need to register my Big Duck?

Yes, unless your Big Duck is the tender to a larger vessel (mothership), registration is required. We provide every hull with a specification plate and a HIN number also on the transom. To complete registration, you will need to get your hull inspected by a boat code agent once you have powered your hull, (i.e. after installing your motor of choice).
Do I need a boat license?

Yes, you would need a Recreational Marine Driver License to operate your dinghy if it is powered by an outboard. If you’re only using your dinghy with the provided oars, no license would be required but you cannot attach an outboard motor.
Can I tow my Big Duck?

Yes! 

Any of our hulls are suitable for attaching D-Rings for towing purposes. The best position to tow from would be from two bridle mounts, placed adjacent to the existing bow grab handle.

Then the best method would be to install D-Ring patches with a PVC base using a PVC-specific adhesive onto the hull of the dinghy. 

Big Duck does not offer these as standard and not every customer requires them, meaning those who don't are still saving the most amount and receive the best value. Secondly due to their installation location often changing depending on individual usage. When you source the davits, they may come including the glue, all you need to do is ensure that it is a PVC-specific adhesive.

These are common accessories sourced from your local chandlery. Or, you can order D-Ring patches from us directly here. And for adhesion, you can use the glue that comes in our repair kit from here. 

To give you a better idea of what would be required for the towing, please see here showing a common example of how it's done.

The grab handle included as standard on every Big Duck hull is exactly that, a grab handle to be used for handling while on shore or docking. It's not to be loaded, used for dragging along the beach, towing or anything that would risk breaking the PVC patch that holds it on.
